- John the Ripper 1.7.3 (Pro for Linux branch)
-
John the Ripper is a fast password cracker, currently available for many flavors of Unix (11 are officially supported, not counting different architectures), Win32, DOS, BeOS, and OpenVMS. Its primary purpose is to detect weak Unix passwords. It supports several crypt(3) password hash types which are most commonly found on various Unix flavors, as well as Kerberos AFS and Windows NT/2000/XP LM hashes. Several other hash types are added with contributed patches. License: Other/Proprietary License with Source Changes: Besides the update to 1.7.3 (and thus including all of the improvements of that version in a well-tested native package), new with this release is official support for Windows NTLM (MD4-based) and Mac OS X 10.4+ salted SHA-1 hashes. Also included is a pre-built RPM package for 64-bit capable systems, which makes use of 64-bit mode extended SSE2. This is a free upgrade for everyone who has purchased the product in the past.
